Hydrogen could play a pivotal role in
tomorrow’s energy mix, but it is expensive
to transport. At Aramco, we have developed
a potential solution to transport hydrogen
safely, cost-effectively, and at scale, by first
converting it into blue ammonia.

Following a successful pilot program, shipping
40 tons of blue hydrogen to Japan in 2020,
Aramco delivered 25,000 tons of blue
hydrogen to South Korea—making it the
world’s first certified commercial shipment.
With this, we aim to demonstrate that the
transportation of hydrogen is not only possible,
but vital as we work towards lower-carbon
energy solutions at a commercial scale.
