DCM Shriram subsidiary begins commercial production of sulphate of potash

Article image

DCM Shriram Bio Enchem, a wholly-owned subsidiary of DCM Shriram Ltd., has started commercial production at its sulphate of potash (SoP) plant at its Hariawan (Uttar Pradesh) sugar facility.

The SoP plant has a capacity of 4,600-tpa, and started commercial production on January 29, 2024. It has been set up at an investment of Rs. 57.10-crore, based on technology developed by the Council of Scientific and Industrial Research, Central Salt and Marine Chemicals Research Institute (CSIR-CSMCRI) in Bhavnagar, Gujarat.

The SoP and muriate of potash (MoP) is extracted from the spent-wash ash from the molasses-based distillery at the site. When implemented at scale the technology has the potential to reduce India’s sizeable imports of potassic fertilisers.
