According to the company’s statement, the transaction was completed on February 28, with a valuation of $1.425-bn.

“This acquisition increases our total annual production capacity to approximately 9.5 million tons, significantly enhancing our scale, geographic diversity, customer reach, supply chain infrastructure, and sustainability leadership,” it added.

According to Turkish media reports, WE Soda has officially become the world’s largest soda ash producer with the acquisition of Genesis Alkali.

WE Soda’s CEO Mr. Alasdair Warren, emphasised, “We are now the world’s largest soda ash producer and the only one with 100% natural production, further reinforcing our sustainability leadership. We have diversified our portfolio operationally and geographically while gaining access to global infrastructure that will enhance our customer service offerings.”

Commenting on the deal, Mr. Grant Sims, CEO of Genesis Energy, said, “This transaction gives Genesis the financial flexibility to accelerate the process of simplifying our capital structure. With the sale of the Alkali Business, our primary focus will once again be on the midstream energy space and our industry leading businesses therein”.

Over half of all soda ash production is used in glass manufacturing, but it is also used in a wide range of other products, such as powdered detergents & soaps and rechargeable batteries, as well as being used extensively in metallurgical processes, and across the food, cosmetic and pharmaceutical industries.
