German methacrylate specialist, Röhm, has announced that its methyl methacrylate (MMA) plant in Bay City, Texas (US) is now operating all four reactors of the planned production volume.
“Just one year after its successful start-up, the facility is now operating steadily at routine capacity. Following commissioning, operations were gradually ramped up, supported by extensive validation and continuous process optimisation. Reaching full capacity significantly strengthens Röhm’s position in the North American market,” the company added.
Integrated into Oxea’s production facilities, the 250,000 tonnes per annum plant is the first in the US to use Röhm’s ethylene-based ‘Leading in Methacrylates’ (LiMA) technology on a large industrial scale.
Nearly all MMA is polymerised to make homopolymers and copolymers, the largest application being the casting, moulding or extrusion of polymethyl methacrylate (PMMA) or modified polymers.
“As part of site operator Oxea’s planned turnaround in the second quarter, the LiMA plant will also be taken offline for scheduled maintenance. This planned measure is intended to secure the site’s long term operational safety and efficiency,” the company informed.
