Olfactory technology startup, Osmo, has inaugurated a 60,000-sq-ft manufacturing facility in Elizabeth, New Jersey (US), which will also serve as its headquarters. The site combines robotics, fragrance development, and artificial intelligence (AI) to support scent design and production across multiple industries.
The facility is intended to expand commercialisation of Osmo’s proprietary AI-powered platform, ‘Olfactory Intelligence’, which handles custom fragrance formulation through to manufacturing, bottling, and packaging. The vertically integrated model is designed to serve both global consumer goods companies and smaller emerging brands, with flexible minimum order quantities across the production lifecycle.
“We are democratising access and unlocking a new world of fragrance for brands of all sizes, and this facility will expand that potential exponentially,” said Mr. Alex Wiltschko, CEO and founder of Osmo.
Mr. Mateusz Brzuchacz, Chief Manufacturing Officer of the company, said the site positions the company to serve enterprise clients seeking to reduce fragrance costs, accelerate time-to-market and explore proprietary molecules for differentiation, as well as emerging brands requiring accessible price points and expert guidance. “Our low minimum order quantities and vertically integrated approach allows any brand to bring a big vision to market with maximum efficiency. Olfactory Intelligence enables custom fragrance formulation for anyone, and the facility gives us the space to execute,” he added.
In February, the company announced the expansion of its executive team and close of its Series B. The round, led by Two Sigma Ventures, brought the total capital raised to $130-mn.
Osmo’s fragrance technology development leverages proprietary molecular data, machine learning, and perfumery expertise. Spun-off from Google Brain in 2022, Osmo achieved ‘Scent Teleportation’, the world’s first full digitisation of scent with no human intervention, and lays claim for having created the “industry’s largest structured scent data library”.
