Chevron Technical Center, a division of Chevron U.S.A.., and Canadian enhanced oil recovery (EOR) specialist, ZL Chemicals, have announced a technology licensing agreement under which ZL Chemicals may commercialise Chevron-developed chemical surfactant technology. ZL plans to offer products and services using the licensed technology under the Vantis brand.
Chevron has developed and applied advanced surfactant technology to improve resource recovery in unconventional reservoirs, and the agreement opens the way for broader commercial deployment of the technology. Under the deal, ZL Chemicals will commercialise and market Vantis products and services, expected to support applications in shale and tight reservoirs, including base-well enhanced oil recovery programmes and new well-optimisation efforts.
Mr. Ryder Booth, Chief Technology and Engineering Officer of Chevron Corporation, said advanced chemicals are an area of differentiation for the company, and the licensing agreement creates a pathway for ZL Chemicals to bring the technology to a broader market at scale.
Ms. Echo Liu, President of ZL Chemicals, said the company is focused on delivering enhanced oil recovery chemistry and field services to support operators' production and reservoir management objectives, positioning Vantis as a scalable, turnkey offering spanning lab evaluation, application design, on-site deployment and field execution.
The agreement combines Chevron's technology development expertise with ZL Chemicals’ commercial capabilities and customer relationships. Chevron will continue developing next-generation advanced surfactant technology for its own business, while ZL Chemicals will commercialise products and services using the technology licensed under the agreement.
