China-based Boretech Environmental Engineering has commissioned a high-capacity food-grade PET bottle recycling washing line for Fuhai Group New Energy Holding at a facility in China, adding significant new recycling capacity to the country's circular plastics economy.
The line, with a throughput of 15-tph, will produce 86,000-tonne per year of food-grade recycled PET (rPET) flakes from post-consumer PET bottles. The flakes can be further converted into polyester sheet and bottle-grade PET resin for use in beverage, food, pharmaceutical, and consumer packaging applications.
The recycling facility forms part of Fuhai Group's RMB 6.92-bn ($960-mn) polyester packaging materials project, designed to produce 1.5-mn metric tons of virgin polyester packaging materials annually. The complex employs two-reactor polyester polymerisation and direct-melt processing technologies to manufacture polyester packaging materials, including cold-resistant sheet products and speciality PET packaging resins. The addition of food-grade PET recycling capacity enables Fuhai Group to integrate recycled feedstock into its polyester packaging value chain.
"The successful startup of this project demonstrates how advanced recycling technologies can help build scalable circular economy solutions for plastics. As demand for food-grade recycled content continues to grow worldwide, investments in high-quality recycling infrastructure are becoming increasingly important for achieving sustainability goals," Boretech said.
