Aditya Birla Group’s carbon black arm Birla Carbon has announced a restructuring into three business units — Asia; Americas & EMEA; and Specialty Materials — as the company repositions to sharpen customer focus and speed up decision-making.

Mr. John Loudermilk, President & CEO of Birla Carbon, said, “The rapid pace of change today requires a nimble organisation, empowered to make quick decisions and act. These changes will enable Birla Carbon to further strengthen partnerships, drive innovation, and create value for our customers”.

Under the new structure, Mr. Amit Kumar, currently Chief Manufacturing Officer, Asia, becomes President, Asia, overseeing the rubber business in the region. Mr. John Davidson, currently Chief Sales & Marketing Officer, takes on the role of President, Americas & EMEA, responsible for the rubber business. Mr. Shashank Awasthi, currently Head of Sales, Asia and Business Head, China, becomes President, Specialty Materials, with global responsibility for specialty carbon blacks and Nanocyl multi-walled carbon nanotubes serving plastics, coatings, energy systems, and other non-rubber markets. Mr. Zachary Combs, currently Director of Technology for Energy Systems, becomes Head of Global Technology, responsible for process and product development across the company.

Alongside the reorganisation, Birla Carbon said it will continue to “assess its asset base in line with market trends” leveraging major capacity expansions in Asia while demand has weakened in the Americas and Europe.

Birla Carbon operates 19 manufacturing facilities across 14 countries and runs technology centres in Marietta, Georgia; Taloja, India; and Sambreville, Belgium.
