German chemical major, BASF, has signed an investment agreement with the Nanjing Jiangbei New Area authorities to set up a new electronic materials production site in the Nanjing Jiangbei New Area Materials High-Tech Park. The site will expand BASF’s manufacturing capabilities for semiconductor materials in China. Start-up is expected by the end of 2028.
The company said the move reinforces its commitment to supporting China’s growing semiconductor industry through local manufacturing, technical expertise and reliable supply. The plant will also serve as a platform for closer collaboration with customers and partners across the semiconductor value chain, helping to speed up the development of semiconductor technologies through local expertise.
Mr. Jens Liebermann, senior vice president and head of BASF’s Global Electronic Materials business, said: “Through this investment, we are strengthening our local manufacturing footprint to better support our customers and contribute to the continued development of China’s semiconductor industry.”
Mr. Gops Pillay, President of BASF’s Global Operating Division, called the investment another milestone in the company’s “local-for-local” strategy. He said building on BASF’s existing presence in Nanjing will strengthen its manufacturing, supply chain and technical support network, and help it serve customers in the region better.
